Sahara Hotel...Nostalgia sale! Everything must go! Including the kitchen sink!

Shortly after the elaborate lobby of the Sahara Hotel shut down - and management took inventory - a spokesperson for the legendary Hotel (where Elvis, the Beatles, and a host of other notables either graced the stage or passed-out on the comfy beds in the well-appointed suites too pooped to participate) announced that the business entity which controlled the assets would be selling-off all the contents of the once-sumptuous lodgings.

Uh-huh!

The Sahara Hotel is holding a "nostalgia sale".

"Everything must go," the owners noted yesterday to the media, in no uncertain terms.

Except for the "roller-coaster" - out front - which stays.

Starting tomorrow, the Sahara will toss open its doors - at $10.00 a pop - and allow serious buyers (lookie-loos, too) to browse for keepsakes.

And, what a treasure trove that will be!

"I'd like one of those Elvis publicity stills that has  been gracing the wall for years," one fan gushed to a reporter who was there to take stock of the inventory.

A few former guests are bent on snapping up the "Camel" table lamps which once rested on each nightstand in all the suites at the Sahara until renovations a few years ago which transformed the overall "look" of the Vegas digs.

A life-size camel is also going on the chopping block ($12,000.00) alongside slot machines, gaming tables, and even the kitchen sink!

Unfortunately, collectors - and sentimental locals - won't be able to take a gander at the offerings online before the items start flying out the front door.

All interested parties must pay the entrance fee up-front at the lobby doors to get a glance at the unique collectibles.

"It's first-come, first-served," underscored the Hotel employee with a tinge of melancholy in his voice.

The "yard sale" kicks off tomorrow bright-and-early (if I am not mistaken).

Lady Gaga...mentors American Idol!

On the heels of her sizzling-hot release, Judas - Pop Diva Lady Gaga - will charge into the rehearsal hall at American Idol next week to mentor the four finalists vying for pop star super stardom.

The segment - featuring the Queen of the Monster circuit - will be broadcast May 11th.

James Durbin, Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina will perform songs written by award-winners Leiber & Stoller.

The songwriters are best-known for drumming up memorable musical top-charters like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock."

"Stand By Me" was another big hit they penned.

In addition to the exciting news about Lady Gaga, American Idol producers have acknowledged that there is another treat in store for fans next week.

Steven Tyler will premiere his new music video, “(It) Feels So Good" on the May 12th results show.

Finally, it should be noted that Ryan Seacrest (MySpace friend) announced that auditions for Season 11 will begin Tuesday June 28th in St. Louis.

The show will follow up that open-call session with others in Portland (OR) and Charleston (S.C).

Robert Plant...mellow Led Zeppeliin front man appears on Dave Letterman!

Legendary rocker - Robert Plant (replete with curly locks and pasty face due to unflattering stage lighting at the Ed Sullivan Theatre) - delighted fans and viewers alike last night when he sat down for a down-to-earth chat with late night talk show host Dave Letterman.

When asked about his musical roots, Plant moaned that radio in the 50's was pretty dire.

Consequently, he relied on innovative new sounds emanating out of Germany during that time frame, for inspiration.

Plant confessed that he was also initially influenced by Muddy Waters and the Memphis Blues.

He excitedly recalled that when he first heard - Heartbreak Hotel - the soulful quality of Elvis's voice resonated to the very core of his being.

On that note, Dave quizzed Plant about crossing paths with Elvis decades ago, during the early days of his heady career.

"We were invited up to his suite at this well-known Hotel. There were a couple of Gorillas guarding the door. The suite was something out of Get Smart, 'ya know - one room leading into another - that sort of thing.  And, there were these babes with bee-hive hairdos - who all looked like Sandra Dee and Stella Stevens - hanging around the Hotel suite," he laughingly recalled with a smidgen of humor in his distinctive voice.

As to Elvis, well, that was quite a memorable meet-and-greet.

"Actually, when he stepped out of the bedroom, he sort-of glided towards me and gave the best Elvis impression he ever performed on stage," Plant joked in so many words.

According to Plant, Elvis was smooth, sensual, and debonair in person.

The musician noted that today he is greatly influenced by fok music and the Smokey Mountain sounds, which he asserted to Letterman, originated from Ireland and Scotland when  immigrants first settled on U.S. Shores.

Not surprisingly, his number last night on stage was pretty easy-going and low-key.
