Texas Governor Rick Perry...to run for President? Great choice!

A few days ago I penned a post on Rick Perry - and his ongoing battle with the President - over  the escalating illegal immigrant problem on 1200 miles of unprotected Texas border.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2011/05/texas-governor-rick-perryillegal.html

The Texas Governor lamented the fact that President Obama appeared to be looking the other way.

And, for some inexplicable reason, Barack Obama has refused to recognize the urgency of the problem and the growing threat against the fabric of the American way of life if appropriate action is not taken immediately.

As this juncture, an old expression came to mind, that I live by more-often-than-not.

It goes something like this:

"If you want something done, you have to do it yourself!"

So, that begs the question.

Just maybe, Rick Perry is primed-and-ready to run for President in the next election?

A couple of years ago, our paths passed briefly at a red-carpet event at the American Film Institute Festival in Dallas, Texas.

I found Mr. Perry to be quite charismatic.

Notwithstanding, the politician with the dark good looks, carried himself well - too!

I say, give it a shot, Rick!

U.S. Supreme Court...Arizona E Verify Immigrantion Law upheld by Justices!

Today, the Supreme Court ruled that Arizona was within its rights to require employers to check the legal status of their workers before hiring.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce brought a lawsuit against the state over the legal measure on the grounds that enforcement of E-Verify Laws was exclusively in the purview of the federal government.

Surprisingly, the four Justices who sat on the U.S. Supreme Court, tipped their hand when they gave clear and obvious signs at oral argument that they were inclined to rule in favor of the appellant (Arizona).

The final decision was 5 - 3.

Justice Elena Kagan did not vote in the case because of a potential conflict.

Kagan bowed out on the grounds that her previous position as Solicitor General in the Obama administratio
precluded herself from participating in the landmark case.

Although sweeping immigration reforms (instituted in 1986) barred most States the right to enforce immigration laws, there was a loophole which the appellants were able to drive a spike through.

Lawmakers left one clause in 1986 pertaining to “all licenses necessary to operate the businesses" which cinched it for Arizona in a nutshell.

John Roberts noted in his "Opinion" on behalf of the U.S. Supreme Court that Arizona is entitled to enforce its employment-verification requirement through licensing laws which turns out to be a clear opening for other states similarly situated.

“We hold that Arizona’s licensing law falls well within the confines of the authority Congress chose to leave to the states and therefore is not expressly preempted,” Roberts wrote with a nod from his peers on the Court.

In the wake of the ruling, it is anticipated that other states will now follow suit, to put a lid on the hiring of illegal immigrants in the United States which has been escalating out-of-control over the past year.

The high court’s findings in respect to the narrower employer-focused law signals that states have some leeway in passing laws similar to Arizona’s now-infamous immigration law.

A federal E-Verify requirement law is also in the works.

“I am pleased the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Arizona E-Verify law and their right to revoke business licenses for employers that knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Not only is this law constitutional, it is commonsense," beamed House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) who is introducing the measure on the Federal level.

On the heels of this ruling, some Arizona lawmakers are hopeful that another case going before the U.S. Supreme Court in the near future, requiring that local law enforcement officers check for the legal Immigration Status of an arrestee will be successful as well.

Texas Governor Rick Perry...illegal immigrant surge a crisis! President Obama neglecting his duty to Nation!

I expect that when the Governor of Texas appeared on a major network this week to discuss what he described as a troubling surge of illegal immigrants on the Texas border of epic proportions, that it was quite an eye-opener for many U.S. viewers sitting comfortably at home in their armchairs in the dark.

Don't feel badly, folks!

According to the Governor, the President is unaware of the escalating crisis, too!

Governor Perry lamented the fact that Barack Obama appeared in the city of El Paso just two weeks ago, and took the bold-faced stance that the Texas border was secure.

It's not!

If you caught the news reports filtering in from the Texas border live - where law enforcement agencies were vigorously patrolling the border to apprehend illegals attempting to cross under the cover of darkness - it would have been abundantly clear to any fool that the illegal immigrant problem has reached a fever pitch.

While some may be under the impression that immigrants who enter the country in a clandestine fashion are simply humble Mexicans illegals seeking a better life - Governor Perry alleged in no uncertain terms - that the massive nightly crossings also consist of foreigners who are enemies of the State - some with ties to Al Qaeda - for example.

In addition, Perry alleged that drug cartels are - not only moving drugs across the remote border (with lethal chemicals that are poisoning our youth) - but have also set up distribution centers in El Paso, Dallas, and other U.S. Cities just a hop-and-a-skip away from Mexico.

The Governor also pointed an accusing finger at the President for failure to provide funding to curb the escalating siege on the nation which poses a threat to the very fabric of American Life.

For example, grants from the Federal Government have been cut, so Law Enforcement (ICE, the local Sheriffs, and Homeland Security) have insufficient funds to battle the illegals who may be entering the country to set up cells (with the express intention of eventually attacking this country "from within").

Perry is under the impression that President Barack Obama doesn't care about the problem, for some inexplicable reason, or perhaps has a secret agenda in mind.

With his bid for a second term on the horizon, is the subject too volatile to broach at this juncture in his Presidency?

Some hint that there are powerful influences at work in the corridors of power in Washington.

Are Mexican lobbyists influencing the Government behind-the-scenes?

Speak English...please! Restaurant owner draws fire for posted sign!

I was channel surfing the other evening when I stumbled on an interesting news report on a restaurant owner back east who drew a lot of  flak because of a sign that he posted in the window of his establishment.

The gentleman in question posted a notice that his staff only spoke English in the eatery.

Some in the quaint little town - tourists mostly passing through - were disturbed by the sign which they immediately perceived as racist and discriminatory in nature.

Not so, though.

Apparently, the owner of the local restaurant was prompted to post the sign on the heels of an unpleasant incident which went down in recent days.

According to the report, a Latino family entered the restaurant to order a meal, but did not speak any English.

"It was a frustrating experience for me," the man told a reporter.

"They got angry because no one working in the restaurant spoke Spanish.  I tried to explain to them that this was America and that English is the language that is spoken in this country. But, they did not understand.  They got up, and angrily left the restaurant without eating."

Frankly, I sympathize with the restaurant owner.

Is he expected to hire a Spanish employee to speak Spanish to Latino customers who may saunter in now-and-then?

I have a pet peeve of my own about the current problem with Latinos and the issue of English.

On many occasions, I have gone into McDonald's or Jack-in-the-Box, and had difficulty communicating with the employees on the counter because they did not speak much English.

I have also been particularly annoyed about the fact that on occasion when I have been in a store - wihere Latino workers are employed - they often speak Spanish as I am standing there - and I am subsequently left out of the conversation.

It is not only rude - and shows bad manners - but it is damn annoying!

In fact, I wrote a column on it in my "Mr. Manners" regular feature on the Tattler.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/11/mr-mannersenglish-in-businesses.html

I think it is high time that the Government instituted a Federal law that stipulates only English be spoken in businesses, government offices, and public areas, to ensure that our English language is not pushed aside in favor of Spanish, and or any other language, for that matter.

I am not off-base about this, either.

In Quebec (Canada), for instance, the French Canadians actually have "Language Police" who make sure that the French Language is preserved so that the culture remains intact without threat.

For example, signs in stores must feature French first, in spite of the fact Canada is a bilingual country (English/French).

Also, the signs in French must be prominently displayed, to ensure that the message is loud and clear.

In Quebec, French is the first language, that will not be diminished by English-speaking Canada attempts to ignore its presence (or culture).

Sixty Mintues broadcast an interesting report on this issue which bears watching for those who are concerned about their language and culture not being trampled upon, disrespected, or lost in the throws of an illegal seige on their Nation.

Amen!

Scandals...of the Privileged Few! A Novel by Julian Ayrs! Chapter 5!

Nathan was mulling over his plans for the evening (Friday night in the big city!) when his cell went off.

The ring tone spit out the message like clock work.

"Fuck off!"

That always took strangers within earshot by surprise.

Dare he answer it?

Nathan flipped the top of his cell and glanced at the number.

Ah, it was Jon.

Maybe, he'd like to cruise out to the Casino and blow off some steam, too.

"Yellow?" he teased playfully in to the mic, as he waited for his old school pal to respond.

Jon was having some problems with his girlfriend and was knocking him up - as English blokes would say in jolly old England across the big pond - to cry on Nathan's wide shoulders.

Perfecto!

It was going to be a snap to twist his arm and arrange to hook up at Clay and Kearney where the rambunctious due could hop on a shuttle out to Red Hawk to gamble.

"See 'ya at 7 o'clock sharp, then."

___________________________________________________

As usual, Jon was tardy.

"Fashionably late," he uttered up defiantly, as if to say "so there!".

When it came to the nuances of social etiquette, Nathan wasn't one to dither.

Notwithstanding, his buddy needed a little sprucing up in the wardrobe department.

He gave Jon the quick once over.

Uh-huh!

The same old same old.

The 6' 2" former football player was sporting rugged black jeans (accented by an ornate western-style belt at his slightly-overweight waist), finely-tooled custom-made boots, and faded rustic plaid shirt topped with a requisite ubiquitous ten gallon cowboy hat (which screamed out red neck).

Hee Haw!

He was an ass-kicker, there was no denying it.

"Heh, let's zip over to McDonald's and get a burger," Nathan coaxed, as he double-checked the mad money in his worn leather billfold."

"s not steppin' inside of that fuckin' hellhole. I told 'ya, before. I'm tired of the immigrant workeover-running the place," he barked at his friend in disgust.

"Oh, come on. It's not that bad, Jonny-boy!"

"Look, McDonald's used to be a great American success story. When the guy who founded the place went global, and  started to rake in millions, it underscored what capitalism was all about in this country. There's nothing wrong with the work ethic, and trying to strike it rich in the good old U of S A!  But now, fast-food take-out joints like McDonald's are taking a nose dive, kiddo. To cut back on overhead, and increase profit, the greedy bastards have been rustling up low-paid illegal immigrants to serve junk-food junkies around the nation. And, to make matters worse, most of 'em don't speak any English. All they know is how to punch in the code for a McMuffin. And, calculate the change with the help of the cash register."

Jon paused to catch his breath.

"You know what really irks me now?"

Nathan was afraid to ask.

"Well, I'll tell 'ya," he continued, without skipping-a-beat.

"About every two-and-a-half seconds, some jerk-off in a brown monkey suit, starts dawdling next to the table while I'm trying to eat my happy meal. With a scraggly mop in hand, the loser starts to scour the floor over and over again. Seesh!  The reek of detergent up my nostrils is enough to make me throw up, Nat."

"You're hilarious," Nathan chuckled a little nervously, when he caught sight of a couple of tough swarthy-looking  construction workers giving the two of them dirty looks from a perch at a bus stop.

"You'd better keep it under your lid," Nathan half-whispered under his breath.

"They'll peg you for a racist. You'll get beat up like that gal in Baltimore."

"Fuck 'em. When they belly-ache about their rights and being mistreated, that's just Jim dandy. Ain't it?  But, when an annoyed Anglo-Saxon legitimately gripes about the behaviour of a Mexican or a Black, they're called racists," he lamented, as he gave a knowing glance to the two dudes who were now glaring at him.

"The gardeners in WeHo and Beverly Hills tick me off, too Every ten minutes, they're hosing down the sidewalk. They don't have a clue about conservation, for one thing. And, forget about being knowledgeable about water shortages, either. The leaf blowers? Noise polluters, for starters. Ever watch those idiots in action?  They just blow a whole stack of dead leaves from one spot to another, then back again. An exercise in futiliry. Great way to go, if you're being paid by the hour. Useless, fuckers!  One day, one careless worker splashed water on my expensive boots. Did he apologize?  No, sir!  Must have been born in a barn. No manners whatsoever," he scowled.

"Well, in some respects, you're right," Nathan started to reply, before he was cut off.

"Damn right, I am. I talk the talk. I say stuff that other folks are thinking, But, they're too candy-ass to speak up about it.  I tell 'ya, I am sick of the way decent white Americans are being treated in this country today. We should run 'em all out, send 'em packing."

At this juncture, Nathan howled.

OMG!

His buddy was not unlike some ignorant - back-woods hillbilly - depicted in some Hollywood movie!

"Well, you can't take it out on them, really. Big corporations want cheap labor, so they exploit illegal Mexican workers. A lot of these immigrants  come to America - legally or not - for a better life. Jon, aren't you familiar with the passage inscribed on a plague at the Statue of Liberty - you know - the one about the humbling masses?"

"Humble assholes, more like it. I wouldn't mind, if they pulled their weight. But, the truth of the matter is, as soon as they get to this country they go on welfare and drain the public coffers. They are the scourge of the earth, if 'ya ask me!  On the news the other night, one anchorman reported that the Latino population has tripled from 15 million to 50 million in just a scant few years."

"Really?" Nathan responded in shock. He had no idea.

"They're taking all the jobs from young Americans. When I was a kid in the burbs, students usually worked part-time at McDee's on Easter break, during the Christmas holidays, and throughout the summer holidays. The money they earned paid for the cost of tuition, books, and their upkeep at College. Now, it's a lot tougher to get by, especially now that the Universities have raised the fees."

Nathan couldn't really argue to the contrary about that. It was true, after all. Times were tough, alright.

"I've heard that some of these McDonald's franchises are owned by drug cartels and that they're hiring their own, if you get my drift."

"That's preposterous. You don't know the owners are drug dealers."

"I wouldn't be surprised."

Quite a few immigrants from India own 711 convenience stores, so I don't know what is wrong with that.

"Just wait. One of these days they're going to poison us with that fast food junk at the take-out counter. Mark my words. Remember when that controversy took place in Arizona last year over the Mexican illegals?  It was revealed that Hispanic instructors were teaching grade school students to mistrust white folks. And, at taxpayers expense! The jerk-offs actually hammered into their heads that white folks were responsible for their alleged oppression. Give me a break!"

And, there's another thing, he continued with his rant.

"Ever tried to have conversation with one of 'em?"

"When a Black individual and a White person have a conversation, their emotions usually ripple across their faces. So, 'ya get a sense of how a person is reacting to the other. "Ya get a line on how an individual is relating. With a Latino?  Nothing!  Pay attention next time. I have noticed that if I ask a Mexican a question - or speak to them in general at McDonald's or wherever - that they don't reveal their feelings. Their faces are blank!  All the personality of a sluf. You know that old expression, eh?  The lights are on, but nobody's home. Some days, I want to reach across the counter and shake some sense into them. What morons!"

Now that Jon was all fired up, it was difficult to calm him down.

"And, when they talk in Spanish with another employee, they do it to exclude white folks from a conversation. That drives me up the wall. I get angry. In fact, I want to shout at them - "Look this is America. Speak English. If you don't like the way we do things here, go back to Mexico!".

"They were probably born in Silverlake," Nathan kidded, as he glanced at his watch to check the time.

I had a real laugh the other day when I played a joke on one of them on the counter at McDonald's on Pine Street.

When a short fat Mexican worker turned to a fellow co-worker, and spoke to her in Spanish, I jumped on it.

"I know how to speak Spanish, I sternly warned her, as I looked her dead in the eye."

"You do?" Nathan reacted with surprise.

'No. Of course not.  I just said that so she wouldn't try to pull that stunt in the future. If that low-life thinks I understand Spanish, she won't make fun of me to her co-workers in the future."

"But, you don't know that," Nathan replied calmly.

"You can tell. If you have words with someone, and they turn to a friend and whisper something hoping not to be heard, I think it is pretty much a given that they're disrespecting you whether you know it for a fact or not."

He sighed.

"Nathan, you can tell by the way they act after-the-fact."

"Jon, you're paranoid."

"Nope. I just know when I am being made a fool of, and I don't like it."

Fortunately, at this juncture in the heated conversation, the bus pulled up.

Now, the tirade would stop in its tracks, thankfully.

He hated it when Jon was on the rag about illegal immigrants.

But, believe it or not, just about everyone he knew was up-in-arms about the escalating situation with illegals.

In particular, as Jon noted, the general consensus was that their was a sinister plot underfoot - a conspiracy - to secure U.S. Citizenship for illegal Mexican workers (even by nefarious outrageous means).

Recently, he was sickened when a news report exposed a group of illegals who were renting a safe house, where pregnant Latinos were housed to help carry them to term.

When the neighbors complained that something suspicious was going-down on, the authorities stormed the premises, and found about two dozen babies in cradles in a kitchen with plastic draped over the young ones in a makeshift kind-of incubation tank.

God!

How barbaric!

Baby factories proliferating in the United States.

No wonder they call them anchor babies.

And, get this.

Immigration issued a press release informing the media that they were not going to charge the individuals with a crime.

They just shut down their shop.

Well, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that they'll just start up their baby factory somewhere else more remote, maybe.

Where will it all end?

Nathan shuddered to think.

McDonald's...hiring rude non-English speaking employees! Incompetent servers unfamiliar with Company Policy!

We pledge to insult and mistreat White Americans!

If you're looking for service with a smile - or expecting to be treated with some dignity and respect when you stroll into a restaurant for a meal - avoid McDonald's like the plague.

Used to be, there was a time in America when an individual's daily routine included a jaunt into the fast-food outlet for an egg McMuffin and a cup of java - before heading off to the office.

Now, consumers are turning away in droves (as studio movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn would say), because of questionable hiring practices at McDonald's designed to cut costs and garner bigger profits for the industry giant.

For instance, the company is hiring a multitude of uneducated poorly-trained immigrant workers - who speak little or no English - to wait on their once-loyal customer base.

Unfortunately, McDonald's staff have only been lightly trained to punch in orders on a cash register, and turn over change that has been computer generated.

For starters, that cause problems for hungry customers, who may encounter complaint issues that need to be addressed during the course of the meal.
If a problem arises over an order, for example - nine times out-of-ten - the counter server will not be able to converse in English with the individual intelligently (let alone resolve the complaint at hand).

In response, Latino workers tend to stand awkwardly on the spot with a blank stare on their face, trying to conceal their lack of English skills and their inability to fathom a resolution to a complaint issue.

The fact that the food is always cold and tasteless doesn't even enter the question at this point.

In addition to these glaring problems, last year I began to also notice a prevailing bad attitude among employees at McDonald's, which I originally chalked up to cultural differences.

However, when the Arizona controversies arose last year over a bold-faced effort by politicians to implement laws to stem the tide of  illegal immigrants, it was determined that Latinos were being taught in schools (with U.S. taxpayer monies) that middle-class white folks were not only the enemy (not to be trusted) but also responsible for their alleged oppression on these shores!

Many Mexicans take the position that California was once their land and that U.S. forces "stole" the state from their forefathers!

After that revelation, I trotted into McDonald's less frequently in the future, especially at the outlets where a larger percentage of the workers were disgruntled Latinos prone to mistreat white Americans.

The situation at McDonald's has progressed from bad to worse, I am sorry to say.

For instance, today - when an elderly Caucasian citizen waltzed up to the counter to ask for a refill - the Latino server rudely informed the older man that McDonald's no longer gave a second cup to individuals who purchased a coffee under the "Senior Coffee" discount offered up since the fast-food started up years ago.

Uh-huh!

This retired individual was being penalized for being a Senior!

Forget about any contributions the elderly may have made to society over the years.

Well, that appears to be the way Latino workers view the situation, anyway.

On another occasion, when a customer did not receive a newspaper they paid for at the counter with their meal, a second employee filling out the orders was unable to respond to the individual's demand for their San Francisco Chronicle because their English was so limited they didn't know what a "newspaper" was!

Imagine that!

The disgruntled patron was forced to call upon a supervisor to deliver it up!

McDonald's has fast-become a National joke!

The worst offenders are the outlets in the downtown financial district in San Francisco and in Las Vegas on the strip.

For good reason, I am now boycotting the company to underscore my disapproval over the way they are running their company, which discriminates against decent white folks.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot! Demented shooter's murderous rampage in Arizona!

In the aftermath of the shocking attack this afternoon in Arizona on popular Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords - and others (which resulted in a couple of deaths) - questions are being raised around the country.

Why did the gunman - 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner - manage to skillfully maneuver and carry out the disturbing premeditated act?

How was the troubled shooter able to avoid detection once his murderous plot was underway at the shopping mall where Gifford appeared for a casual (but publicized) gathering to meet-and-greet constituents in District 8?

In a statement earlier this afternoon, Governor Brewer underscored that it was important to maintain an "open house" where voters were able to exercise their right to access to elected Government officials.

On the heels of that comment, News anchors reported that Congresswoman Giffords shared the same political philosophy.

In fact, it was noted that as a matter of habit the well-liked politician often appeared after a stump - to interact with members of the community.

Although the details are still sketchy, it doesn't appear that Giffords was the sole target of the demented shooter.

Curiously, a Federal Judge who put in a spontaneous appearance at the event (he was shot and killed) previously ruled on a controversial illegal immigrant issue which resulted in documented death threats in the past.

Was he in Loughner's sights?

Investigators dredged up video tape recordings on the suspect's YouTube web page in which he rambled on about "illiteracy" in District 8, a new currency, 1st Amendment rights, and a loss of trust and faith in God.

A sick puppy?

Coincidentally - just last week - the Congresswoman publicly recited key sections of the 1st Amendment.

Some say, that specfic reference to - "the rights of the people to have redress with the Government" - may have been what triggered the shooting rampage earlier today.

President Obama - who referred to the Congresswoman  as a good friend - expressed his heartfelt sorrow about the sad turn-of-events with a promise to get to the "bottom" of it.

It appears that the suspect was on the edge of the abyss these past few days - and for some inexplicable reason - finally toppled into it.

Regardless, the President confirmed he instructed FBI Director Robert Mueller to head up what is expected to be an intense thorough investigation over the next few weeks.

A nurse, watching a news alert alongside me, lamented that "this is what happens" when the Government fails to take care of the mentally-ill who currently wander the streets aimlessly and without hope in what some refer to as the "end days".

I noted that in a civilized society, it is the duty of the strong to take care of the weak.

She laughed cynically in response.

"People may agree with that compassionate thought in theory.  But, when it gets down to the nasty nitty-gritty, they gripe about the cost."

If that is the case, it is important that Americans vote politicians into office who not only care - but are capable of effecting change - as quickly as possible.

Amen!

President Obama...get out of town by High Noon! ICE's softler gentler approach!

Last week, President Obama announced that there would be a White House policy change in respect to the way in which ICE (Immigration Police) handled raids on establishments caught hiring illegals.

Instead of storming the walls of the work place - and smashing down the doors to signal their arrival in the course of a raid on the premises - the President noted that in the future ICE and Immigration Officials would politely waltz into the employment office and issue a warning that if the undocumented workers were not "let go" (fired) that appropriate charges would be brought against the employer in the Federal Courts.

President Obama was obviously responding to pleas from members of the community (myself included) who took to the streets over the past two years in highly-visible protests in front of Government buildings (such as the Federal Building on Temple Street) to voice disapproval over the para-military-style tactics which have been used iin the Los Angeles area which were downright shocking.

I reported on the disturbing Government "show of force" which has also  been used by the DEA to bust licensed Marijuana dispensaries in California which has been the subject of a lot of controversy as well.

Although I applaud the President's attempt to civilize what has been a barbaric assault until now on the part of the Government and Law Enforcement agencies working on its behalf - the announcement reminded me of a plot twist lifted from Hollywood's Westerns of yesteryear.

For example, in the classic film - "High Noon" - the outlaws were issued a warning to get out of town by Noon.

Or else!

Bottom line, it will be interesting to see if the softer gentler approach works, with the Obama administration.

Illegal Aliens...McDonald's hiring undocumented workers! No speak, English!

At the crack of dawn the other morning a posse of City commuters found out the hard way that McDonald's - one of the Nation's largest employers of day workers - is hiring illegal aliens who can't speak one syllable of English.

The wake-up call rang out crystal clear shortly after a long line began to snake at a fast-food take-out on Alvarado (7th & Westlake).

Inside - at the rear of McDonald's - a worker on duty was taking an inordinate amount of precious time bringing the men's room up to scratch (or so it was first thought) which triggered some nasty banter back-and-forth amongst the patrons and staff.

"How long does it take to swab down and restock a bathroom," one disgruntled guest uttered up pointedly to a Supervisor when she arrived on the scene to calm the troubled waters.

Just as she was about to respond to the question - the door fluttered ajar - and the ugly truth revealed itself.

An employee - with a goofy look on his face - was spied wiping down an interior wall with the flimsy intent of erasing a riot of ugly graffiti.

When one gent caught sight of the scenario going down he erupted in a fury.

"You shouldn't be wiping down the wall during the busy breakfast hour when customers may also want to use the bathroom."

The young Latino stared back at the middle-aged man blankly.

He obviously didn't understand one pristine word!

Now, the customer was really in a tizzy.

"Doesn't that worker speak English," he angrily snapped back?

Red-faced, the Manager she admitted the obvious.

"No."

Uh-huh!

McDonald's is hiring illegals.

How can I make that sweeping conclusion?

It's elementary, Dr. Watson.

When a foreigner applies for residency in the United States - in addition to filling out forms and paying up-front fees - the individual is required to demonstrate a knowledge of the History of this great Nation and demonstrate an ability to speak the native tongue (English!) of the land.

There is just one sticky issue that remains to be resolved.

Has McDonald's been knowingly and willingly breaking the Law?

That depends.

If McDonald's oversees all hiring halls across the country, the answer is probably "yes".

On the other hand, if individual "franchise owners" rustle up their own day workers without any intervention from the headquarters or regional offices, maybe not.

Which begs another question.

Are wealthy Latinos buying McDonald's franchises with the specific intent of providing a safe haven for their fellow countrymen?
