PRINCE...in Concert @ Forum tonight! Rock Pop Star still dazzles fans!

Tonight, the celebrated rock Icon - PRINCE - will take the stage live! in Inglewood!


As usual - the 'Purple One" - will no doubt dazzle the fans with his charismatic stage persona, distinctive vocal powers, and masterful guitar musings!

The well-respected Grammy Award-Winner continues to book into concert halls - last minute - to sell-out the houses while many of his contemporaries languish in the shadows.

The legend prevails for good reason.

The gifted artist is a creative force to reckon with!

Prince was born - Prince Rogers Nelson - on June 7th in 1958.

For a brief eccentric period in his illustrious music career, the pop rocker was known as the "Artist Formerly Known as Prince".

Guess he got tired of being a symbol.

Prince has been quite prolific over the years, too, with 40 singles to his credit.

In addition to penning tunes for himself, Prince has unselfishly promoted musical artists such as Sheila E., Carmen Electra, The Time, and Vanity.
Hits have also been crafted for the likes of Chaka Khan, The Bangles, and Sinead O'Connor.

The man's talent has not gone unnoticed by the industry either.

Prince boasts 7 Grammy Awards.

In addition, he has won not only a Golden Globe - but, also - a coveted Academy Award.

Unlike some artists who toil for years without recognition, Prince has already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004).

Cher, eat your heart out!

For what it's worth, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Prince No. 28 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of all time!

St. Luke's Episcopal Church..open mic night in San Francisco! Sundays @ 5 o'clock!

For a singer, it is the perfect venue!

Of course, I am referring to St. Luke's Episcopal Church at Van Ness & Clay Streets in San Francisco.

For starters, the acoustics are amazing!

Especially for a voice that is in dire need of a bit of reverb (boosting echo) or sweetening.

The notes in this wondrous inner sanctum joyously float out and soar into the  exquisite mystical realms!

The space is not half-bad for acoustic guitar-playing, either.

On Sunday evening, I popped in to catch St. Luke's "Open Mic" night which is free and open to the community-at-large.

Each week, articulate enthusiastic host - Roem Baur - invites performers to trot down to the parish to express their God-given talents and entertain music-lovers young-and-old alike.

The evening's festivities start up every Sunday eve with a set by one talented artist booked in advance.

Then, on a first-come first-serve basis, local talent will grace the stage.

Unlike other venues, a piano and guitar are provided, and ample supplies of cool refreshing water!

Over the weekend, I caught a gig by Nathan Denim (spelling?) - a singer/songwriter - who reminded me somewhat of a young Billy Joel.

The down-to-earth outgoing mid-twenties dude demonstrated a flair for lyric-writing.

Unlike pop forty tunes - that tend to follow a strict Billboard-style formula - Nathan's tunes are rich with intros, musical interludes, and catchy choruses.

In fact, it struck me that the up-and-coming talent (with an album soon-to-be-released) might do well at writing material for the stage (Broadway, in particular).

"Dean" - a country-and-western singer - was a bit nervous and flushed in the face before the rapt audience (who hung on every masculine note).

However, once he gets comfortable beyond the footlights, I expect that his talents will soar!

I am going to predict that one of these days his original songs will end up a hit on the top 40, alright!

The bill-of-fare is quite entertaining, and I expect you'll rustle up a few new friends along the way, if you throw caution to the wind and venture out.

Eric Clapton...Guitars & Amps auctioned for charity! Art of Rock & Roll! March 9th!



On Thursday March 9th, music buffs and collectors alike, will be able to bid on a rare collection of personal effects belonging to legendary musician Eric Clapton.

The auction titled - "The Art of Rock & Roll" - will benefit a Crossroads Centre charity.

An Clapton Signature Model 2008 Fender Stratocaster is expected to fetch a whopping sum (upwards of $25,000 to $30,000).

Included in the sale are one-of-a-kind artworks such as a large-scale album cover by celebrated artist - Alton Kelley - sure to rustle up big bucks with astute collectors (appraisers say the gavel may drop at $35,000 smackeroos!).

Illustrated catalogues may be snapped up for a mere $35.00, however!
