Wow! That's great value. Although it looks like the edu-iMac (no bluetooth or superdrive or remote). But at least it's available for those without more money to spend.
As for the spread between 24" and MacPro . . . good that they're reducing the gap. Give people more options!

Overall I think the most important upgrades would be the graphics and the cpu...they need to move on and away from the C2D and keep up with the pack.

A crap camera will never take a great picture, despite the hands it is in. It might take something vaguely enigmatic on some level, but with bad lens, inability to capture colors, or faulty mechanics/electronic, it will be nothing more than a crippling piece of equipment.
A good photographer can frame, layer, focus the subject, and compose well. Yes, you don't need a "good" camera for those qualities, but you need a well-creafted camera to back up and improve on the photographer's skills.
Sorry to say, but your are mistaken. People have been taking phenomenal photos without the cameras sold today. Cameras of yesterday were not as accurate nor precise as they are today, yet incredible photos have been taken for quite some time. How is that?

I wouldnt think so (of course thats a big assumption). There has to be some kind of acceptance prior to the download, along with all the EUA jazz. I wish Apple would give the JB community a little slack, as they do the hackintosh folks.

FWIW, the one Toys R Us I checked with apparently had an initial delivery of TEN on Sunday, all of course gone within an hour. Now back to the digression of this thread.....

this might be sweet if i could buy my text books in an e- format (though i'd probably load them into my MB before i would load them onto my ipod). but as it stands (with no option but to cause severe back problems for myself later in life), i'm really not interested in trying to read my ipod.

FINALLY got through on the phone to APPLECARE and talked to Brett after being on hold for 25 minutes, he said the site and their phone lines are getting hit HARD right now, and that the site will be back up in one hour.
So until then lets be patient and think about those BRAND NEW BATTERIES we'll be getting at Sony's expense (of course, keep a fire extinguisher and a bottle of vodka in your backpack just in case.)

You've got to admit, you kind of deserve that response, if you going to cite a commercial to back up your argument.

I'm pretty sure it was recent when Dell announced they would preload Linux on some of their computers.
i think that that used to be the case, but no longer. back when w2k and xp was released, linux wasn't ?ready?. for experts, yes, but not normal folks. over the last two years that changed dramatically.. and over the last few years i have seen linux pop up in oddest places, like in an internet -terminals in hotels. previously they ran windows.
looking at features, windows is way behind linux, vista included. and looking at apps, windows doesn't offer anything that linux doesn't, for free. well, maybe games.
For all the features that Linux may have, it doesn't have the software support to be a major player right now. There are some nice programs, that I use everyday on my Linux box, but not nearly enough to replace my XP box at work.
Well I think the phrase significantly improved is a opinion.
It has value, but Apple doesn't buy OSX from itself. The point being, you get OSX when you buy a Mac, just as you get Windows when you buy an OEM PC. Some people seem to be finding a virtue in the latter but not the former, and a problem the fact that Apple has managed to significantly improve the OS five time in same span of years when Microsoft has managed it only once.

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(

If it's shipping in June, even June 30, how can it not be near final form? I mean when a developer tells me s/w is "nowhere near final form" I'm thinking early beta at best. But 2.5 months from release (assume June 30) shouldn't it be in the bug testing phases and everything else locked up?
Because the version that was showed last night isn't even the most up-to-date. It has been said that they have already re-worked a lot of things that aren't in the latest version. That was probably just a stable version they got out the door for a preview.
I don't know how much they're going to fit in the next few months, but we'll see.

My sentiments exactly. Get them while they're still in diapers, if possible. It worked to convert the Microsoft Wintard generation many years ago. Microsoft totally indoctrinated millions of unsuspecting consumers and turned them into Wintard drones. Now they're trapped by their own myopic vision of the future and refuse let go of the ancient Windows platform when a new order is upon them. That's why those friggin' brainwashed IT managers are nothing but Windows lapdogs and never want to let new technology into corporations. Thank heavens Apple is doing an end run around them by going above and below their narrow-minded Windows ways. I can't wait to see Microsoft's next earnings report reflecting Windows license sales tapering off. It's time for Microsux Windblows to get some post-PC era payback.

They're going to broaden the span of the MB.
The top end spec will be increased probably with core 2 duo, more RAM and disk, bringing it closer to low end MBP but maintaining the price point. Probably keeping it black.
The bottom end will stay the same with core duo at a lower price.
Why this?
Well a reseller telles me 'what people want' is a 13 inch MBP and this would create something similar but far enough away to justify the price difference.
The MB has not really filled the niche of the 12 inch Powerbook yet.
And the delay for delivery for top end black MBs has gone up but not for the bottom end (I know this might just be a supply thing) in Australia.
