Not sure if anyone noticed this, but the new Imac does not qualify you for a free ipod using the current educational promo.

Spent about an hour on the phone getting through to Apple. I too was having a problem with getting the web site to accept my batteries serial number. I was told that they were aware of the problem and to try later. I waited about two hours and tried again. This time the serial number went through fine. I suspect that matter is simply one of server overload.
There is no need to submit a bogus SN to get a replacement of a battery that is clearly within range. The only reason (if indeed it is a reason) to submit a bogus SN is one of greed.
Greed, i was entitled to a replacement battery........i did nothing wrong.....i am only getting what Apple and Sony owe me........

If Apple is selling tons of products, in a market with plenty of competitors, how can they be not competitive? 9.3% of buyers in the USA decided that for their money, a Mac is the best computer they can find.
They're not competitively priced. I wouldn't argue that they're not a competitive brand (HW,SW, marketing...appeal factor)...of course they are :)

I just ordered the new 2TB Western Digital, it says it is for PC only, as it is formatted for NTSF, but it'll work on my MPB, right? Even if I have to re-format it?
Don't worry about the formatting, it's just a hard drive, they're all standard.
Since you said it was 2TB, that means it's not a 2.5" internal drive for a laptop, so it's either a 3.5" bare drive or a 3.5" inside an external case. If it's a 3.5" bare drive it will not fit in your MacBook, you need a 2.5 and I believe the biggest ones are 640GB @ 5400rpm. If it is an external, just plug it in, open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select the new drive from the list on the left, select the "Erase" tab at the top, and "erase" it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

I am a Transplant Physician at a University Hospital. I, and several others at my Medical Center use the iPad to access our Electronic Medical Record at the patients bedside, take notes and access reference material.
The most recent issue of the Mayo Alumni Newsletter focussed on that institution's implementation of mobile technology (specifically iPhones & iPads) in delivering more efficient patient care.
Thanks for the reply. I think this is great. I would love to do the same, but from my experience it seems that academic centers are extremely slow to adopt new technology. There is just too much red tape when it comes to hipaa.

I really like this one. I wonder, though, if it wouldn't be a bit better by cropping the fence out of the bottom. That way I can "step" into the frame much more easily, I think.

Here's mine for the day. I just returned from a short trip to Cincinnati for an academic conference. I was walking around Mt Adams with my girlfriend yesterday and this caught my eye.

So, on Halloween my Macbook was returned to me, not bad considering it was picked up on 10/27. Apple replaced the bezel, heat sink and a few other parts on the white Macbook. They did not perform the most recent firmware upgrade, so I just did. Time will tell, but I'm most pleased with the rapid turn around time, and I must say the Macbook came back in pristine condition.
Well done Apple, I hope.

Yesterday, Microsoft inadvertently released the pricing of its upcoming OS called Vista on their Canadian website. The prices were picked up by the NeoWin blog (http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=34770) and are also neatly layed out at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_vista#Editions).
Vista Home Premium will retail for $239, with upgrades available for $159. Additional licenses will be available for discounts as well. Vista Home Premium edition has evolved from XP Professional, Media Center, and Tablet product lines, and probably is also the edition which can most closely be compared to Mac OS X.
Many comparisons have been made between Vista and Mac OS X, and with many expecting Apple to continue its pricing tradition of $129 for Leopard (Mac OS 10.5), further comparisons can be made on price as well.
All prices in USD

It would be really disappointing if they waited with this upgrade for mwsf 2007.
I don't think we'll see a new MB at MWSF 2007. Possibly a bit later than that in time for the Leopard release.
But then again we never know.

Why would you buy a huge HDD iPod, when you could get an iPhone or an iPod touch?
I've got an iPhone and a classic.
The classic is used almost every day solely for playing music. The iPod app on my iPhone is only used once in a blue moon.
I just think the classic is a much better music player and I'll carry on using them as long as I can. :)

OK, so their inital aim was implicitly to get in-the-face of smug Mac users. And then Apple "leans" on them, so they go all nicey-nice and 'decide' to a USB wifi card instead? Doesn't this seem slightly odd to anyone else?
It certainly strikes me as being a bit off, as well. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, though. Seems like a pretty abrupt about-face.

Interesting... I was about to edit my last post that Apple's site doesn't claim the Macbook has any slots... I can't see any in the Macbook QTVR images either.
It's a USB wireless card.
Seriously, boys. This thread is an amazing pile. "You hate Apple." "No, I don't, you hate hackers." "It's Apple's fault." "It's Bob's fault." "You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!" Blah, blah blah....
It's just a typical security report. Get your panties out of a bunch and have a glass of water.
I will say, the Page 1 report is rather misleading, considering the video. MacRumors should probably modify that.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to go to the search part of iTunes? I have to click it with my mouse, and I try to minimize mouse usage... if I could find a key combo for it, that'd be great...

Uh, yes really. I deal with manufacturers professionally. Unless something is labor intensive and low value added (like clothing,) the only reason to manufacture in China is for the currency exchange rates and lax environmental laws.
Why do you think Haier, a Chinese company, is profitably manufacturing in South Carolina?
It looks pretty labour intensive to me...

Here's one more. Having grown up there, I'm quite familiar with the place as well. I should see it as a challenge but the familiarity makes it a difficult place for me to photograph.

My roommate, sister and a good friend all have 12" powerbooks. I've called my sister and friend to let them know. I was home over lunch when this news broke and so I pulled the battery out of my roommates powerbook and it falls withing the SN range being recalled. This, for him, is actually a GOOD thing. His Powerbook battery is at 52% after only one year of ownership and 177 load cycles. Now it looks like he'll be getting a free battery from Apple. He never had a problem with it but free is free.
