Thanks, I live in the UK so should be able to find it locally.

    Cheers

    Kimbie

I was going to buy one but Amazon had it for $200. I ordered a lava lamp for $20 instead. I think I'll have a pic of my set up next month. I should have my iPad by November.

I'm with Snowcat001 on this one...My daughter has an HP touchscreen and although its kinda cool...after about ten minutes it gets kinda tiring and manipulating the icons..albeit its a WIN 7 box...is frustratingly tough. Now Apples product is in no way comparable to HP (until HP comes out with a WebOS touchpad! ) still think its a long way from disappearing mouse for the desktop. I'm just saying..

Adobe is not making any new fans with this scheme. I went from MX Studio 2004 to CS4 to CS5, and they cant even give me a free minor update? Either it it has enough new features to release it as a major update, or it doesn't.

I've given them a lot of money over the years, and they can't even give me a free minor update?

I'm all for cutting the military budget but drastic cuts will hurt more than help.

    Source please.

Emotional appeals on their own mean nothing.

When did we stop doing sane things in this country?

I'm wondering when we will start. ;)

So the theme line suggests that their big products will have to do with wireless networks.

That really doesn't narrow it down any, but still, good to know!

Do I understand this correctly? You have to pay the same for an upgrade no matter if you have CS5, CS4, or even CS1? If you don't want to wait for CS6 you pay double?

This thing should be gradual and reasonable. Heck, for CS5 owners an upgrade they didn't dare adding a full point to should be free. Talk about market power here... Sure those who need it and make money with it will pay for it. But it's so cheeky it tickles.

Wasn't Tandy sort of a big name in computers back in the 80's? It seems like when I was little quite a few people had Tandy computers from RS.

I had a TRS-80 Color Computer 2 around 1984 when I was 11 and later a Tandy 1000HX. I loved radio shack, not sure why all the hate from here... Being a real store of course an adapter, wire, or plug will cost more from them; but they usually have them in stock and will take returns if it is wrong. I went looking for a few obscure parts and they do still stock them, its just they are in the long pull-out drawers so its not so obvious what they have. Plus they are usually kept up nice and are local; I wish Apple could partner with them for computer sales as well. The local store orders food from my restaurant all the time, so I would love to give them business.

Let's talk about this, shall we?

.... I submit the following premise:

    1) In our society, an individual's income is correlated with his intelligence. This is easily seen in that college graduates earn more money than non-graduates, who in turn earn more than those who drop out of high school.
    ....

you start off wrong.....a person's level of education and their intelligence are not the the same thing

There are far greater costs/concessions in utilizing those larger venues.

Moscone Center is the best and largest facility in the SF Bay Area for Apple's needs. It's not like Apple is going to rent out the Oakland Coliseum and spread out a thousand chairs and tables on the football field.

Going out of town increases the costs enormously: moving equipment and people. Airline flights, per diem meals, hotel rooms, taxis, rental cars, etc. Forgot a couple of boxes of marketing collateral? Moscone Center: have someone drive it up 280. Elsewhere: buy full-fare airline ticket for employee.

What does it cost Apple to send an engineer to Moscone Center? Employee gets to expense lunch, write off transportation (heck, half of these engineers probably live in SF - they can just take BART or Muni to the event). Let's say $30 a day.

What does it cost to send an engineer to the L.A. Convention Center or Vegas? Long-term parking at airport, airline flight, $200 hotel, arbitrary $75 per diem meals, rental car/taxi, etc. Could easily end up at $400 per day per person.

Ok, but they are only utilizing Moscone West. Why not rent West and North, South or all three. That would allow them to expand without moving.

The usual answer would be: start with a new source, and compress that to 640x480. If you start with a video that's already 320x240, you can't expect it to look better if you later try to re-encode it to a larger screen size. Can't get data from nowhere... can't get blood from a stone.
I think the person was referring to content they already pruchased from iTunes store. In which case, as I posted before, I too am wondering this same question. Looks like I will have to send Apple an email.

It's fascinating how quickly the Democrat party has turned into the party of war...

    A couple of points, 5P ...

    1. I have never supported this latest military action. All I did in my posts was to point to the law that allows Obama to do what he did. It's the same law that's been used to justify numerous military actions since it's passing by both Democrats and Republicans alike. Pointing to a law and saying "this" is why something is allowed is not the same as endorsing either the law or the action that it permits.

    2. Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, and Bill Clinton are proof that Democrats have long been willing and able to use the military. The unfortunate truth is that both parties have been "parties of war" to this very day.

Right, which is why Fortune 500 companies, education, and the medical industry is quickly adopting them. Maybe you need to open your mind a little to possibilities rather than obsess over one small aspect of the iPad.

What part of the medical industry is adopting the iPad (besides a medical school trying to appear avant garde) and how? I'm a physician at one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the nation and I usually see more iPads at my local Starbucks than at work. So, please enlighten me. Use specific examples please.

I'm actually typing this on my iPad 2 and find it being sold at a toy store as appropriate. I love it, but let's keep it real here.

Most people here are missing the big picture. I'm pretty old and have witnessed the changes in the tech sector. Back in '01 a lot of laptops were made or at least assembled in the USA, and they were quality products, but with cheap foreign labor most global companies could not resist the couple of percent they could add to their profit margins by moving overseas. The company I worked for made laptops for a major name, but they closed the plant here to save between 3.00 and 6.00 dollars per unit, a very small percentage of the overall value. A company like Apple could easily, make and assemble products here, the profit margin on an iPhone is around 60%, but if they did that then there profit margin would only be 50%. In 2000, American EXPORTED more high tech components than it imported. Here is the .gov source (http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c0007.html#2000). We have competed and still can. As the Yuan rises against the dollar because the Chinese government can no longer keep it down the price on all these goods will rise, this is happening right now, the Chinese government can't combat inflation and rising food prices. So, companies like Foxconn are forced to look for cheaper labor.

Not sure about Voice Control... No matter how well it works, I will probably feel strange taking to a phone. And most of the time it's just easier to press a button than to say it.

This might be in response to Google's voice thing though, which also recognizes "Plain English" and works with speech-to-text instead of typing. This might be something cool for writing text messages and stuff like that, as typing on the iPhone isn't the best.

I wouldn't be shocked if WalMart were telling studios don't sell to Apple. The ethics of Walmart have never been in question: they don't have any.

The thing that sticks out in this article, if it's true and it is the Post so...., is that Apple is paying $4.51 more for a movie than it can sell it for. Does this make any sense? The iTunes Store is not like Walmart where you can pick up prepackaged meat, cookies and Preparation H while you're getting a movie. Is it because Steve makes money either way? I would think the idea of selling movies is to make a profit on them. And if Walmart is ALWAYS the low price does that mean new movies will be less than iTunes?

Also, if this story is true I wonder how well Walmart will fare in receiving their shipments of new iPods for Xmas. I saw them at Target yesterday. I wonder if Walmart's got any yet.

i don't understand why some people would long for 12 inch ones when macbook is 13 inches. don't tell me 1 inch will make that big of a difference.

That 1.3 inch is a huge difference, actually. When you are walking around a city every day and needing to stash your laptop in your bag, the larger MB gets annoying fast. The smaller and (lighter?) 12" is much nicer.

Further, the MB case design is not something that appeals to me- it's great for some, but the aluminum housing of the PB can't be beat. And, there is no way I am carrying a 15" laptop around in my bag.

The 12" PB is a wonderful laptop, and I would go smaller if apple made it (hi-res 11.4 widescreen?) As long as the resolution is high enough to do work on, I am happy

i doubt it, arnt apples sales of desktops down? and notebooks up?

the macbook will be revised after the macmini

    No.

    No.

No way. Probably not until 1st quarter 2007 (fiscal).
