That $1199 iMac has lots of other wonderful features including a screen, but if you think it is anywhere close to the performance of a i7-2600 based PC (that go for $750 from HP/Dell) then you are delusional. To get something from Apple with an equivalent processor you are looking at a $2199 iMac or a $2499 Mac Pro. Doesn't matter that in the long term the Mac could be a better value, some people can't justify that huge price difference or paying additional for features they don't need or want or cannot afford to.
Again Macs are a premium product and because of that Apple will hit a ceiling of those who can afford or justify buying their products.
i7 based AIO for 750 from Dell? Oh wait, tell me you didn't just compare a Tower to an All in One computer.
Seriously. Why the hell do people do this? It's like comparing a truck to a roadster.

Hmm..
MacBook Air (subnotebook, as in light as...)
MacBook Pro Air Edition.
Air MacBook?
That sounds like something (corny) Steve would come up with, and it matches the posters too.
Sounds like a good possibility to me...

As an aside, that little localized color-correcting demo (watch the video of the event) is more sophisticated than Aperture's Brushes approach. It would be nice to see that feature move over to stills. And if FCX can render all that heavy video that quickly and in the background, why does it still take more than, say, instantly to load a RAW file? They need to put that guy Randy Ubillos in charge of the Aperture team for next rewrite.

Did someone say gun ownership?
http://www.gun-control-network.org/International.gif
Well, just accentuates the fact that the UK isn't run by a bunch of idiots. Knowing France well, it's appalling the figures being shown there. The french government is a joke, somewhat corrupt and is just a poorly governed country. It seems to me the good people suffer whilst the bad people get away with it, truly despicable.
I know they hospitalise children under 18 for mental illness, the UK doesn't do that and I don't know any other nation which does that. SURELY It's ridiculous for people who aren't even adults to be in mental institutes for weeks and even months? Won't that in fact affect their mental stability by being with other Ill patients?

I think it would be neat to not only add ebooks... but MAGAZINES!
i mean, the ipod is a teen/young person trend for the most part anyway.... why not make Seventeen/Vogue/Vibe/XXL/Cosmopolitan for the iPod. Make it categorized like a podcast... so you scroll to what chapter you want.... then read the articles and see the images that correspond with them. You could subscribe to them like you do podcasts but the magazine companies could make you pay to subscribe. Something along the lines of what you'd pay to buy the paperback... or heck... even more since people would pay it.
You would have to regulate the content though for what is sold in the iTMS. Sure a playboy/hustler magazine would sell a gazillion subscriptions but i dont think you could get away with selling it in the itunes store.... Just make it an open .pdf type of file (or even a proprietary kind, that incorporates .pdfs with .jpg's .aac's and .mov's) where joe schmoe can make his own for his friends... or for his business... and Hugh Hefner can make his own and sell it on his own website. This way any blame of inappropriateness would fall on an external site (ie playboy.com) not Apple.
Think of the possibilites.
THough i HATE DRM you could restrict the ".imagazine" file it to the 5 or 7 people who have your account enabled like they do with music. You could have a parental setting in iTunes for what grade of content was allowed....
you could do a whole bunch.... NY times in your palm, Recipe magazines for mom.... porn for timmy.... Businessweek/ PC Mag for dad....
ANd you would have have have to make it where one could view the paper/magazine from the computer. Maybe this could be via Bluetooth or USB.
My mind is going cuh-razy
Itunes already has FADER magazine

Is this just the only for the Macbook, or is the macbook pro also affected?
Seems like the pro would be affected too. But I have no idea why you would want to use a SECOND wireless card on a pro. The one built-in seems like it would be enough.
In other words, this attention-craving hacker decided to use a Mac to demonstrate an exploit that is far more threatening to a PC. The chances of a Macbook user a) buying a 3rd party wireless card and b) hooking it up to a Macbook are slim and none.
Now if this exploit was demonstrated using the internal wireless, it would be a whole different level of seriousness.
And don't even get me started on wifi security... :D

Stand by and watch, what? What would Gaddafi do to the protesters? They're all armed now so it wouldn't end pleasantly.
It's being led by NATO and the US is not committing ground troops. It's a no-fly zone and I would have done the same if I were Obama.
I agree. I don't really mind what's going on in Libya.

Again, agreed. Who cares when an announcement happens, as long as it happens soon. So far, no one is right, at least not until it actually happens and someone is proven correct.
Well...I'd care to see it more later today or tomorrow than in the next week and a half :P I can have my ordered placed sooner then :)

They did show Costco the door and for a long time I did not see any Apple products at my local Costco. Recently, I saw iPod touches but there was a sign that the warranty is provided through Costco and not Apple as Costco is not an authorized dealer.

I also think that whoever has the remaining rights to this material realise that its shelf-life is almost up. In 5-10 years time, the broad appeal of much of this material may have less relevance to the average consumer and its perceived market-value may be far less.
That's not a comment on the merits of The Beatles' music; just my view based on many of the comments I read by what I am assuming are younger music listeners.
I'm 43, many of these songs are ingrained into my memory from childhood, but the only Beatles albums I would possibly be interested in are maybe 2-4 remastered CDs; I'm not interested in downloads at all. But to be honest, I don't feel that by not currently owning them that my music collection is lacking at all.
I don't know about that. I'm young and I love the Beatles. They may decrease in popularity, but I don't expect them to go away ever. Also, it is still quite common for popular artists to cover Beatles songs. Just do a search for some songs on iTunes.
Beethoven and Mozart aren't the most popular artists on the charts today, but their music is still very well known and loved. I expect the Beatles to be known and loved in 100 years. Practically everybody would recognize the opening of Beethoven's fifth, even if they didn't know it was the fifth or that it was written by Beethoven. The Beatles may not reach that level, but their music will be around. They are the most popular artists of this century.

Wow!!! I definitely did not see this coming on a Wednesday. I'm heading to Apple's site right now to check it all out. Go, Apple!
And $999? Holy...
Edit: Haha, I'm just laughing with excitement over here. I love Apple! :D I'm probably not getting one, but this is so sweet. I definitely can't wait to try it out in an Apple Store.

Yes I know the current one is selling like crazy, but that only reinforces the fact that Joe Average will buy anything Apple.

You have to love small towns. I spent about an hour and a half in one Saturday morning getting my taxes done, so I pulled out the camera while I was waiting. I have a few keepers (by my standards of course, which are pretty low) to show over the next few days.

Im glad to see that they finally upgraded their consumer line of notebooks. Now for the RAM, 2 gig's costs about 250 dollars, so if its anywhere near that price to upgrade on the apple store, its a good deal. Ive noticed lately apple has been a little more moderate on their RAM prices, atleast on some machines.

AMOLED technology is still in its refinement stage, but shows much better promise than 3D. But having taken a look at it on some of the samsung phones, then compared it to a retina display? Things like movies and photo's look very good. Text and web browsing may need improvement but everybody seems to jump onto the bandwagon if apple says jump.
Biggest issue with 3D is the premium that they charge for all the crap. Here in Australia movies are already expensive ($18 for an adult, $15 for students, $11 for both on tight ass tuesday), but they put a big mark up on 3D ($21 for adults and $18 for students, no tight ass tuesdays). When you go to see a movie in 2D, that's been advertised in 3D, they'll show it on a small screen with average sound.
Make no mistake, the ONLY reason movie companies are pushing this junk is for the mark up. They'll do the same for the content on a 3D iPad. Charge us more for something we don't really want, provide a less than quality 2D version to force us to do everything in 3D so that they can increase the depth of their back pocket.

makes it obvious that over 50% of the people on the Apple forums were and are blinded by only being able to "see the future" in terms of the past.
When I saw the iPod, I bought APPL stock at $20/share. It is now by far my biggest stock holding in terms of $$$.
Just had to check it: iPod was released Oct 23rd 2001 for $399. Assuming 8.25% sales tax that would be $431.92. That bought 23.8 AAPL shares at the closing prices of $18.14. There was a split, so you would have 47.6 shares worth $330.67 at close on March 18th, for a total of $15,740.
I conclude that all those people buying iPods had not the slightest clue how the Apple share price would develop :D
